About

I'm Jared Hall, a native app developer based in Melbourne, Australia. Originally from New Zealand. The name is "mono" (a uni nickname for having one arm) + "nz". I have a bionic left arm, a cat called Earl, and I spend most of my free time building things that probably don't need to exist.

I grew up on a sheep farm near Palmerston North, studied electrical engineering, and accidentally fell into software after building an Android app for a friend. That led to a couch in Brisbane, a job from a meetup group, agency work, and eventually Melbourne. The full story is a longer read if you're curious.

By day, I work at Tipple where I've been since October 2016. I started as the only Android developer and now manage both the Android and iOS customer apps. By night and weekends, I build my own things. I'm primarily an Android developer but I also do native iOS. I love Kotlin and Compose Multiplatform. I'm not great at web development, but I keep building websites anyway.

My main project right now is API Alerts, my first shot at a SaaS product and something I'm properly obsessed with. This site is where I write about that and whatever else I'm building. Most of it is shouted into the void, but that's fine.
